Periodontal Therapy

Brushing your teeth well and regularly can save you from many annoying problems in the future. One of these problems is periodontal, or gum disease. When you aren’t keeping up with your brushing, plaque can begin to build, leading to inflamed gums.

What is Periodontal Therapy?

To treat gum disease, we use non-surgical periodontal therapy called scaling and root planing. The hygienist will remove the disease-causing bacteria from your teeth and gums. Every hygienist at Humphries Dental is certified to use a dental diode laser for this treatment. In extreme cases, we may need to refer to a specialist called a periodontist.

How Do I Know if I Have Gum Disease?

When your gums become inflamed from the plaque, they form deeper pockets which over time can cause permanent bone loss. Once plaque finds its way into these pockets, it will be impossible to remove it through brushing. Some other common symptoms include:

  • Bleeding gums
  • Tooth pain
  • Constant bad breath
  • Loose teeth
What are the Benefits of Periodontal Therapy?

If you have gum disease, it can have a serious negative impact on your overall health. In order to prevent that, you should see a dentist right away. Here are some benefits you can look forward to after a scaling and root planing treatment.
